WHAT IS My CONCERN ?

Painting is a matter close to my heart, a “love affair” with colors and brushes. I paint on the floor, kneeling in front of the spread out handmade paper or canvas with lots of water, sponge, spray bottle in many layers. My works are often created in nature, under a tree or in front of a blossom, in the garden, in the forest, in Umbria, Italy, in many places. Under the hot sun, in the wind. I am always drawn to the representational motifs, trees, leaves, cranes, swans and butterflies. Maybe also because, in my eyes, something of the essence of a plant or an animal (or a person, but I rarely paint them) is revealed in its shape. As I try to capture this figure through painting, something in me connects with the essence of the other person; painter and object become one in moments.

Basically, I'm interested in light as it unfolds in matter. And perhaps no one put it more aptly than Goethe in his theory of colors: “The colors are deeds of light, deeds and suffering.”

The work “Storks” presented above – ink, sepia, acrylic on handmade paper, 220 x 100 cm, 2023 was on view in the last exhibition “Dreiklang” in the Altes Rathaus gallery in Worpswede. You can find more pictures from the exhibition here.
